The thing I'm nostalgic for from that period on Livejournal is the interactivity. It was the fun of getting into conversations in the comments, finding new people that way, everyone getting into something and on the spur of the moment creating something (I remember fondly people building on each other's poems, or taking inspiration from them, and that moving around a group of friends, for example). Now, it feels (lamentably, for me) more on the Substack model, with each person being like "I will share my thoughts and you may respond if you so choose." It's less playful and there's less interaction between people in the comments (I mean where one commenter comments on another commenter's comment, and a little conversation starts). But it's better than nothing! And I do enjoy the people I interact with here.
